These classes run by Daryl Benson were a huge hit last year and so we have the opportunity to run then again this month - you can see the schedule on the April Class Calender.
Daryl Benson is a professional photographer, born and raised in Edmonton. He writes for Photo Life, Outdoor Photographer and PC Photo Magazine. He shoots stock for both Masterfile and Getty stock agencies and has self-published three books; A Guide to Photographing the Canadian Landscape, Alberta Images and Canada Images.
Photography Workshop I - Introduction
Professional photographer Daryl Benson will be giving a four evening workshop on Family, Pet and Travel Photography. The goal is to share ideas and information that will improve your photographic skills and help you to get the images you envision for the albums you create.
The workshops will run for four weeks, each Monday, starting April 14th. Classes will run from 7:30PM to 9:00PM each evening.
"I will stay later each evening to go over participant’s specific cameras and questions one on one. The last class will be a show and share of the two-page spread you created from the images shot as assignments for these classes. Topics discussed will be, camera basics, aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings (both film and digital), composition, filters, lighting, portrait, travel tips, how to shoot your pet (in a good way), design, image presentation and anything else you may be interested in photographically (I’ve been doing this for well over 25 years, I’ve made every mistake possible at least once, but, have learned from each one). Bring your camera to the first class (film or digital, doesn’t matter, and the cameras manual – if you can find it)! There will be assignments at the end of each class. Participants will be responsible for having prints made from the assignments to bring to class the following week for a group critique (no one’s being judged here, it’s all for fun and learning). Participants will also be responsible for creating (on their own), a two-page scrapbook layout using the images they shot for these classes. "
Fee $50.00 – 15% discount for members
Photography Workshop II - Intermediate
Professional photographer Daryl Benson will be giving evening workshops on Photography. This is a more advanced course and will deal with hands on assignments during the classes and one field trip to put into application the ideas covered.
The workshops will run for four weeks, each Wednesday, starting April 16th. Classes will run from 7:30PM to 9:00PM each evening. The second last class (April 30th) will take place at the Alberta Legislative Grounds and will continue beyond 9:00PM that evening so that we can do some night photography.
Topics discussed will be a short review of camera basics (aperture, shutter-speeds and ISO settings), composition, selective focus, depth of field, using props and lighting (in class), portrait lighting, light painting techniques and how to sprinkle words like “hyper-focal distance” and “reciprocity failure” into your vocabulary so you will sound like you took an advanced photography course. Bring your cameras and manuals to each class. There will be assignments during class and at the end of each class. Participants will be responsible for having prints made from these assignments to bring to class the following week. A short bit of time will be taken at the beginning of each class to review and share one another’s work.
Fee $50.00 – 15% discount for members
